Every year the pride festival in Birmingham is a feel good celebration of the LGBT community in the city and beyond. However, this year one of the aspects was a politicised Pride Parade which featured people protesting for LGBT rights as well as larger issues such as Anti Austerity, highlighting how austerity measures often impact minority communities the most. It was great to see such a diverse group of people marching for a global cause, especially on the weekend that Ireland’s yes vote for equal marriage was announced. Pride is 2 day festival which features a tonne of music and entertainment as well as the parade. It takes place on the end of May bank holiday every year in Birmingham and is definitely worth a visit!
